Thats what I had been reading this famous book about independence of India.....almost nearing the end!! Wonderful reading for all those interested in dwelling into our very recent past as to how our own leaders had taken the whole country's populace for granted and played with their destinies and life !! It gives a lively account of what exactly happened during these 3-4 yrs and narrates each character and incident to the minutest detail - it comes alive in front of your eyes!!

After reading I surely get an impression that we perhaps wud have been better off today had the freedom not been granted for some more time and English would have continued to rule us!!  Howmuch so ever we may condemn english, lets not forget the fact that it were english only those who were able to keep the country united for long time (against as we are made to believe- they ruled with 'divide and rule' policy) and as soon as the talk of independence started..it were Indians (and pakistanis) who fought tooth and nail for partition only and nothing less-  except Gandhi! Each one had  their own selfish motives to rule and amass powers and hence wealth---Indians and Pakistanis alike! If at all anyone was truly selfless in the whole fight and struggle- he was our own Gandhi!...Many Indian Prince were no better or even worse than English..their greed  and cruelty was worse than them!!

And as the clock struck 12 at the midnight of 14/15 Aug'47, thus started our own slavery to our 'own' leaders....and which continues till date!! Looting India more than what english have taken away in their whole life time--the recent example of such loot is the 55 imported cars and 5500 plots of land by one Malhotra in Delhi- which wudn't have been possible without the active connivance of some of our leaders at the helm of affairs in Delhi and whose roots may date back to the independence struggle! I need not discuss many more such examples in past!!

Not wishing to write an essay...I hope someday someone will write as book titled - 'Slavery at Midnight'- which wud narrate how our 'own' leaders have looted their own people in their greed!
